Welcome to my website.
Matthias Hoernes
I am a Mediterranean archaeologist who specialises in the social and funerary archaeology of pre-Imperial southern Italy, particularly during the “long fourth century” BCE. My research explores how social practices, material culture, and landscapes have shaped experiences of memory, identity, community, and cultural change. I am also dedicated to studying, preserving, and managing archaeological university collections as spaces for research, teaching, and public engagement.
